Great experience!  I highly recommend A&P.  Their work was superior and an excellent value.  The price they quoted was much lower than several other companies so we were a little nervous going with them.  No cause for concern though.  Their price is lower because they're highly efficient, quote accurately and are just plain honest.  They respected the budget and scope of work we had planned and didn't try to upsell us.  The new portion of the house was beautifully blended to look like it's always been a part of it.  The interior is amazing, especially the tile work in the bathroom.  They were responsive and attentive to every detail I wanted down to the placement of the light switches.  There was a minor leak in the skylight they installed a few weeks after they completed the job.  We called and they were out right away to tarp it and make the repair as soon as the weather cleared.  We have a gorgeous retreat thanks to A&P!

Description of work:

Addition to back of house expanding master bedroom into suite with large tiled bathroom and walk-in closet.  Reconfigured other bedrooms to expand closets.

First, I had a great experience with A&P. I had been dreaming of a adding a garage to my home for years and finally decided to take the leap last fall. I made up a pretty detailed description of requirements and handed it out at the Home and Garden Show at Dulles. Perry Leach was the last one I talked to. He is the kind of guy that you just like and trust when you meet him ... to the point that I was hoping he would bid.

I received multiple phone calls and was barraged by the different builders and their marketing people. One company wanted to come and look and asked that I be there (they showed up and looked from the street which was a waste of my time). Conversely,  Perry just called and asked if he could come over and do a visual look (I did not have to be there). Then the bids came in. All were in the ballpark with each other ... but the difference was that some gave me a one page proposal and estimate. Perry gave me a very detailed description as well as cost schedule that was performance based (5-6 pages). It was night and day between the A&P bid and every other one.  He also specifically defined what he would do to meet code and he fit every detail. The result was that I did get exactly what I wanted. As a note, some of the one page proposals I received had a disclaimer that any work to meet code may/could be extra. With A&P ... it was very detailed and that is exactly what I wanted and exactly what they did. (Although there were changes, they were all  improvements that Perry suggested and that were actually obvious once the project started to take place).

So, I had one detailed multi-page bid (which was the lowest), and a few one pagers with a cost at the bottom. It was a no brainer.

This process took from September and into late October. When I chose Perry, the parts that I had not planned on like having to get a survey for the property boundary line as well as waiting for the building permit. Perry worked his parts and approval was available to start about mid-Nov. We agreed on a 1 December start.

The project took 3 months. The weather was certainly not kind ... even when the forecast said 'sunny', Perry would be working in the rain. Sometimes the cold just made it too hard. We had a few glitches ... but Perry and Delbert were there every day that there was a chance of work and they made steady progress.

What is the bottom line? I would not hesitate to have them do work for me again of any type. Perry and Delbert are craftsmen and you just have to watch them work ... everything is 'just so'. Perry has great relationships with the sub-contractors and they work hand-in-glove (subcontractors included the foundation and brick work, drywall, and electrical). Perry made this easy for me and I did not want to be chasing anyone. He made it just a perfect relationship and he is an honorable and trustworthy partner for your project.

I'm like all of the other reviewers ... having been through a project with A&P, I now have others in mind and they would be my 'go-to' if it were my choice ... like every other reviewer here ... there is no downside to trusting this company and Perry Leach with your project. He is the real thing and he is very serious about customer service ... but his sense of honor and commitment to you is what I will remember long after I leave this home.

Description of work:

I had a significant garage addition of 50 feet long X 18 feet wide. In conjunction with that, the remainder of the house was resided with insulated siding. During the process, two bedroom windows were removed (to accommodate the garage) and a larger window with casements was added in the master bedroom. Electrical service upgrade as well as brick pavers to finish off the apron between the existing driveway and the garage. Completed 3/1/2016.
